The Turning Point

Stop

There comes a point in your life where you have to decide

will you let yourself become a product of your environment?

Or

do you choose do you produce greatness in your environment?

There came a moment on August 12, 2012 where I almost lost my life for going to get an Arizona green tea. There was a kid being beat up in the street by the police. For riding his bike off the side walk and onto the streets. Everyone screamed telling the officers they weir abusing their power. Power that would soon be misused on me for walking away like I was told to do by a white officer in a white shirt. While I was alone wishing to God the young kid would be okay, God heard my prayers and intertwined or destinies. The rest you will see is history.

“It is by the grace of God that I still have my life. On the morning of August 12, 2012, I Luis Paulino was savagely beat by more than 15 officers of the NYPD, after bearing witness to a use of excessive on a young Latino gentleman who reminded me of my little brother. I pray to bring awareness and a voice to the people who loose their lives to this abusive use of forth by the Police Department. I was treated like a rag doll, dehumanized, and criminalized. This issue is plaguing many men of color daily. How many people must die, be beat, or placed behind bars for nothing more than being a man of color! My mother sacrificed everything so I would finish my Bachelors degree in Conflict studies at DePauw university. To graduate and loose my Job over this event has changed my life. Let this mark the beginning of a change in the way they see men of color.
Because the presidential candidates are talking about everything but things that are currently affecting our youth I need your help.

Police have a negative perception of men of color. Choosing at will to dehumanize us. Regardless of their negativity I refuse to let them define us. So I work 24 hr a day and 7 days a week to unite us. This is the work I do with the SWAG organization which I created.

Dear Luis, I met you on NJ Transit 2/10/2016 where you were reading Tanehsi Coates and then you blessed me with your story. I feel so honored to have met you and know that God does not make mistakes and our meeting was not by chance. I hope you have the opportunity to read the New Jim Crow, by Michelle Alexander. And I hope our paths cross again.

      Good Morning Susan,

My God, your timing could never be more perfect. I’m currently reading the book as we speak via PDF, however I’m going to be transitioning to the hardcover shortly. There’s nothing like reading an actual book and flipping the actual that helps a message sink in more. To me at least.

I know our paths will cross again soon, in many ways through these messages they already have. God bless.
